The Miami-based artist’s latest track is an upbeat, soulful love song which is in contrast to her previous darker sounding single, ‘Noise.’
The title is a call out to the attention-seeking game of social media, but the song itself is about giving yourself all the love you deserve without asking permission.
The first half of the chorus sounds distorted and angry, then the transition into the second half marks that moment of epiphany – the sounds are softer and rounder, the drums are bouncy and dancey, and the lyrics take on a different meaning even though they don’t change.
“Navel-gazing narcissism is rewarded in this constantly connected, depersonalized, and performative world,” Anjulie continues. “It’s about turning a blind eye to the horrors of humanity like ecological collapse, terrorism, school shootings, and crippling economic inequality while being distracted by shiny new tech, social media and the incessant gamification of social status.
