This Friday, disc jockeys and club connoisseurs alike can expect a new dance track to feast upon. “Pandemic is a Portal (PiaP)” is a collaborative piece co-produced by two friends, and neighbors, Krithi and Smaran.
Krithi is a Brooklyn-based producer, remix artist and DJ. She’s exceptional when it comes to blending sounds from the Indian Subcontinent with electronica, hip-hop & dance music. Smaran, a professor of Literature at Stevens Institute of Technology, is a scholar of literary and cultural studies. With their talents united, we get the perfect track for purveyors of dance music and human rights.
Krithi & Smaran’s “Pandemic is a Portal (PiaP)” samples author and activist, Arundhati Roy’s eponymous speech from 2020. Five years later, and the words ring true.
“Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next.”
“Pandemic is a Portal (PiaP)” will be available on all streaming platforms this Friday, July 11th. All proceeds from this track will go to Equality Labs (www.equalitylabs.org), an anti-caste advocacy organization.
You can preview “Pandemic is a Portal (PiaP)” when you listen to episode #176 of HangTime Radio.
