On April 13, Bronx artist, T.R.U., released “TRU Music 13”, and I must admit, I’m a fan. The half-hour mix features a surfeit of songs that you may or may not be familiar with. Some notable titles include Jaden Smith’s “Fallen,” The Weeknd’s “Lonely Night,” and Paramore’s “Decode,” which showcases T.R.U.’s diverse taste in music.
Slowed down, broken up, and distorted vocals are a few ways T.R.U. caught me off guard with his latest creation. Within the first 10 minutes of the mix, I was forced to check my headphones at least five times. Just to be clear, I liked that. The audio discrepancies scattered throughout are, in my case, greatly appreciated. Taking things that most people would see as errors or mistakes, and purposefully applying them to any sort of art is a bold move. Well played.
You can listen to the mix below, but be sure to check out the rest of his content on his SoundCloud. And remember, it’s not your headphones, don’t cast them at the wall in disbelief that they broke.
