Queens-based artist, Naveed Ahmed recently released “Somehow I” which is his debut single as a solo artist. Ahmed previously fronted the alternative/pop band In Loving Memory as Naveed Stone. He decided to progress his music career and more genuinely express himself and represent the South Asian community in a way he wished he could have seen growing up.
“I knew that creating music under my real name was necessary to be the most authentic artist I can be, and reach the people who could relate to my message the most,” Ahmed explained.
“Somehow I” acts as a formal goodbye to In Loving Memory as well as an announcement of his new journey. Throughout the song, he dances between hip hop and pop. While the lyrics describe his experience personally, at its heart it’s a song about looking back and realizing how much you’ve grown.
Anyone who’s had a day they thought they couldn’t get through, but got through it, this song’s for you. The opening lines set a tone the rest of the song follows through with.
“Somehow I persevered
Didn’t think I’d stand before you here
But today I’m thankful just to see clear
I don’t wanna live consumed by my fear”
“Somehow I” is available on all streaming platforms and you can see more of Ahmed’s work on his TikTok and Youtube.
