DONT TRIP, a rapper out of New Jersey, released his latest single, “Untitled,” on January 18. The underground talent is fresh out the starting gate, so don’t even trip if you haven’t heard of him. If “Untitled” is any indication of the direction of his music, then DT is an emerging artist we need to keep our ears open to.
“Untitled” emits the energy of a person who has given up on damn near everything and who has their back against the wall. A sorrowful, dejected beat, featuring a bass guitar and drums suggestive of a garage band warming up, is an adequate canvas for DT’s lyrics. “I’m gullible enough to believe all these thoughts in my head / I’m sick enough to be living up to the shit that they said,” he spits, introducing us to the demons of his mind.
Another striking bar rings soon after: “I’m still refusing those sessions, I’m still refusing those meds.” Here, DT rejects traditional forms of therapy to get rid of the degenerate thoughts and behaviors. Instead, alluded to by the existence of this track, he uses rap as a medium to relieve himself of his worries. With that decision, he joins a community plentiful of other rappers who do the same. Only time can tell if his raps can heal his wounds. In the meanwhile, stream “Untitled,” and wait for more new music on DONT TRIP’s Spotify.
