Pop/R&B artist, Breana Marin, has released her new single ‘Work,’ a moving story of the hardships that relationships go through while deciding if it’s a journey they want to continue. “It’s about being in a relationship long past the honeymoon stage,” says Marin. “The point we reach where each person’s true colors are revealed, and deciding if you’re going to put the effort in to make it work.”
While the song’s context deals with a weighty emotional subject, it’s juxtaposed with R&B and pop influences mixed with a hint of island vibes to keep the tone light-hearted and fun. The lively melodies and beats paired with her lustrous vocals create a compelling dynamic that ties each element of the song together. “This song dives into the feeling of not being heard,” says Marin. “When you’re trying to communicate to your partner what you need to feel loved, but fail to speak the same language.” Having the power of choice to stay or work on a relationship can seem nerve-wracking, but Marin’s velvet vocals and comforting lyrics help listeners in similar situations. ‘Work’ was produced by Dylan Graham (Big Sean, Dave East), BNJMN (Bryson Tiller, DJ Snake, Future), and Coop The Truth (Summer Walker, YBN Cordae, Faiyaz).

Breana Marin is a connoisseur when it comes to making hooks. Raised on Sade, Michael Jackson, and Prince, she honed her skills as a teen in the backseat of her parent’s car, singing lyrics to songs on the radio, and standing in front of the TV taking note of Michael Jackson videos. She began writing her own music, but it wasn’t until college where she began to find her stride. Now based in Los Angeles, the singer-songwriter has taken the internet by storm licensing hip-hop hooks to indie artists. She is one of the top-performing vocalist/songwriters on Beatstars, a digital production marketplace that allows music producers to license, sell, and giveaway free beats. Marin is most known for her velvety smooth vocals influenced heavily by Sade and Imogen Heap. She has written for the likes of Fifth Harmony, Keyshia Cole, Phora, Brandy, and Letoya Luckett.
‘Work‘ encourages listeners to listen to their gut feeling when it comes to love. “We all want to feel appreciated and as if you and the person you’re in a relationship with are putting in the effort to make it long-term.” Stream and download ‘Work‘ by Breana Marin (IG/@itsbreanamarin) now on digital music platforms.
